Uniqlo's brings UT Pop-Up! to Singapore

I was at the Uniqlo "UT POP-UP! Singapore" launch party two weeks ago, part of a global series by Uniqlo that first started at Tokyo's Shibuya Station, and made its way through London, NYC, Paris and Taiwan before arriving here in Singapore only for two days from 4 - 5 May.

This Singapore edition of UT POP-UP! was unlike other countries: it promoted local talents by collaborating with budding artists from Noise Singapore, an initiative by the National Arts Council by offering them a platform to showcase their works. Five designers from Noise Singapore had their UT designs showcased at the pop-up, while eight bands from Noise Singapore performed and entertained the crowd.

The pop-up showcased all-time favourite UT shirts like the Andy Warhol series as well as some yet-to-be-released UTs including some featuring the iconic art works of the late New York pop artist Keith Haring.

We got to pick out some tees for ourselves too! I don't know if this following musing of mine will make any sense but while browsing through the racks to make my selections, I picked up a Ziggy Stardust tee that looked oh-so-cool, and I briefly contemplated getting it, but I somehow knew in the back of my mind that if I bought it, that tee would be hanging in my closet, unworn.

It made me think of a conversation I was having with two friends, who were discussing a book they had read which talked about how everyone subconsciously knows what we like and don't like.

Maybe we shouldn't have to feel  guilty for not liking something that isn't "you". You know what I mean? The times when you know you really want a messenger bag, but you feel like you should try something new and get a hobo bag because its something you'd never do? Or you should really try a new item on the menu because you get the exact same dish at the same restaurant every time and its boring?

What do you think?

Well, the pop-up store might now be over, but most of these UTs are still available at Uniqlo stores, so pop a Uniqlo store today that fits your personal style or try something new!
