The Second Coming of Haute Couture to Singapore

The best of Haute Couture, along with top international labels will descend in Singapore for the second time, presenting the latest Prêt-À-Porter and Haute Couture collections at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands for the 2nd Women's Fashion Week and French Couture Week 2012.

Some of fashion's biggest names will be present at the French Couture Week, including the ineffable Suzy Menkes, fashion critic of the International Herald Tribune (whom I'm the most excited about), Mr Didier Grumbach, President of the Chambre Syndicate de la Haute Couture, and Japanese designer, Mr Kenzo Takada.

This Haute Couture Week will not only showcase the best of Parisian Haute Couture, but also Asian - a total of 8 Asian Couturiers will present their collections at Haute Couture Week. Three are Japanese, and the four other Asian Couturiers from China, Thailand, Hong Kong and Mongolia, will be making their inaugural debut.

Dr. Frank Cintamani, Singapore's Chairman and Founder of Fide Fashion Week, said,
"It is important to first understand that Haute Couture embodies the very highest discipline in fashion. Only then we will appreciate that the future of Haute Couture must include Asia.
We have carefully selected these elite Asian Couturiers with a very determined objective of showing to the world that Asia contributes substantially to the fashion industry than just being the world's consumers and manufacturers of fashion, that we will indeed be a very important force in taking a global lead in determining the future of fashion."

I was invited to the beautiful residence of the French Ambassador, H.E. Oliver Caron where the details were announced to the media and special guests.

Brownie points if you can spot me in the crowd in the photo below!

Haute Couturier Maurizio Galante, who flew in specially to meet with the media, showcased seven of his pieces (pictured below) in a show at the end of the press conference.
